The Art Section of the Solihull Society of Arts is a friendly group of amateur painters that meets every fortnight at Alderbrook School for a variety of demonstrations, talks or practical sketching evenings with a model and/or still life.
We have at least one exhibition every year, indoor Saturday painting classes during the winter months, and outside painting days in the summer.
Demonstrations are carried out by local professional artists with the intention of helping members to develop and widen their skills and become more adventurous. Talks are on a variety of interesting topics related to famous artists or the profession of being an artist.
Some of us have been painting for many years and are quite accomplished, whilst others of us are fairly new to drawing and painting, but we are mutually supportive and we learn from each others’ efforts.
New members are always welcome to join the society. We welcome visitors to come and experience a meeting or two before joining, and the membership fee is scaled to the time left in the year.
SOLIHULL SOCIETY OF ARTS
PART OF SOLIHULL SOCIETY OF ARTS
Started in 1944 the Solihull Society of Arts encompasses not only the Art Section but Drama, Local History, Recorded Music, Solihull On Stage and SOSage Factory.
Solihull Society of Arts – Drama Section was formed in 1944 and has been performing ever since! Now known as SSA Drama, the drama group stages two productions each year at The Dovehouse Theatre, Solihull.
The Local History Circle is a group interested in the history of Solihull and the wider West Midlands and Warwickshire areas. They hold meetings on the third Monday of each month when a talk on local history is given by a visiting speaker.
RECORDED MUSIC CIRCLE
The Recorded Music Circle is for lovers of music whether it be early, Baroque, classical, romantic or modern. You don’t need to be a music expert. Most of us enjoy just listening. The cost is low and we are a relaxed and friendly group.
We are a voluntary Amateur Group, who support young people in Performing Arts here in Solihull. We perform at least 2 shows a year. All our performers are between the ages of 8 and 18 and we try to achieve a 50/50 split between boys and girls.
